What we do
We are committed to ensuring that all children know and understand their rights. Since 2021, we have been producing teaching materials on one children’s right each year. Our materials help to teach children’s rights in a simple, practical and age-appropriate way in the classroom, so that children can play an active role in shaping their own lives and have a say in decisions that affect them. The aim is to strengthen the teaching of children’s rights in the classroom in the long term.
Who we are
We are an interdisciplinary team from the Pestalozzi Children’s Village in Trogen, Switzerland.
Since 1946, the protection, support and inclusion of children have been a central part of our work and educational activities. Children’s rights are not merely a legal basis, but a way of thinking. They open up spaces for children in which they can express themselves, contribute their perspectives and develop their abilities.
This commitment is put into practice through numerous projects, such as children’s conferences, summer camps, radio projects and themed exchange weeks. At the Children’s Village, children and young people actively engage with their rights and learn how to exercise them.
Partnerships
Since 2025, we have been combining our practical experience in non-formal education with academic collaboration with the Universities of Teacher Education in Lucerne and St Gallen.
The materials from 2021 to 2024 were produced in collaboration with Integras, Terre des Hommes Suisse and terre des hommes schweiz. Practical teaching materials on children’s rights were developed, with a focus on school, special educational and out-of-school contexts. This phase was supported and guided by éducation21.
Until 2020, the International Institute for the Rights of the Child (IDE) also developed teaching materials on children’s rights topics, some of which are also available here.
